Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S26 trio is finally official, with the handsets set to debut in just two weeks. As usual, leaks have revealed almost everything there is to know about the Protagonists of Samsung's next big Unpacked event, but I'm struggling to muster much excitement.
Take a look at this teaser poster for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, and you'll see a phone that doesn't look particularly inspiring. Is it because we know so much already, or is it because the specs just aren't that exciting?
A lack of mystery, but no thrill
We've known the Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra's specifications for a while now, thanks to leakers like Evan Blass and Roland Quandt. But instead of building anticipation, this knowledge has left me utterly unimpressed.
The problem isn't the absence of mystery or intrigue. Rather, it's the completely uninspired information revealed so far. For instance, a 5,000mAh battery capacity for the Galaxy S26 Ultra and 25W charging support for the base model – these aren't exactly groundbreaking.
Stop pretending specs don't matter
I've noticed over the years that certain Android handset makers, like Samsung, are talking less and less about specifications when promoting a new device. Instead, they're using more and more hyperbolic and poetic marketing language that. doesn't really mean anything for the end user.
Just look at Samsung's Galaxy S25 series announcement from last year. The title barely hints at the capabilities or uniqueness of the then-latest ultra-high-end handsets, and the first major upgrade is hidden deep in the article, after multiple AI shoutouts.
The apple effect
Could Samsung's focus on AI and experience over specs be inspired by Apple's recent approach? The iPhone 17's success is closely tied to its impressive specifications, so it's puzzling that Samsung would follow a different path.
Apple's iPhone 17 announcement post, on the other hand, prominently features key specs like the 48MP main camera, 2x telephoto, and 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens within the opening lines. This strategy likely contributed to the iPhone 17's widespread popularity.
A boring, underwhelming galaxy s26
So, are the Galaxy S26 specs really that bad? Not necessarily, but they're certainly unexciting. The 5,000mAh battery capacity of the S26 Ultra and the 25W charging support of the base model are underwhelming given the high expectations set by previous flagships.
What bothers me more is that I know Samsung could have easily made these specifications better. It seems like the company's decision-makers are either disconnected from the real needs of their fans or so arrogant that they think they know better than anyone what matters most in a new phone.

If you're like me and value impressive specs, it might be time to reconsider Samsung as your go-to smartphone brand. Alternatively, if you're more focused on the AI experience or other features, the Galaxy S26 could be a solid choice.
