Motorola's upcoming Edge 70 Fusion is set to arrive in India later this week, but a surprising detail has emerged. The phone will be available in two different configurations, each with a distinct battery capacity.

Two versions, different power

While Motorola’s promotional material focused on the 5,200mAh variant, a higher-capacity 7,000mAh version exists. This isn't a simple storage difference; the battery size alone creates a notable distinction.

The 7,000mAh model promises an impressive 50 hours of battery life on a single charge, a significant leap from the 5,200mAh version's estimated 39 hours. However, Motorola hasn't specified the exact number of Android OS updates for either version, offering only a five-year commitment to security patches. This lack of clarity is a misstep, especially as competitors like Samsung and Google have more robust software support promises.

The price difference is also noteworthy. The 5,200mAh model will retail for £370 in the UK, €469 in Italy, and €499 in France, while the 7,000mAh version costs £379.99, €499, and €529, respectively. The 7,000mAh variant is exclusively available in the UK in the Pantone Silhouette color.

The Edge 70 Fusion boasts a 6.78-inch Extreme AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and up to 5200 nits of brightness. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The camera system includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide lens, and a 32MP front camera. It also features IP68 water and dust resistance, MIL-STD 810H durability, and 68W TurboPower charging.

The phone’s design incorporates nylon and linen-inspired finishes and comes in a range of colors, including Pantone Country Air, Silhouette, Orient Blue, and Sporting Green. The 7,000mAh model is slightly thicker and heavier than the 5,200mAh variant.

This dual-battery strategy raises questions about Motorola's strategy. While the extra battery life is appealing, the thicker profile and higher price point of the 7,000mAh model might deter some consumers. Ultimately, the Edge 70 Fusion offers compelling features—a bright display, capable cameras, and fast charging—but the lack of a clear software update commitment casts a shadow on its long-term value.

The device’s pricing positions it competitively against rivals like the upcoming Galaxy A56 and Google's Pixel 10a. But a stronger software support pledge would elevate Motorola's standing significantly.
