China unveils hyper-realistic humanoid robot, droidup's moya stirs unease
Shanghai – DroidUp, a Chinese robotics firm, has debuted Moya, a humanoid robot boasting startlingly lifelike capabilities, sparking both excitement and discomfort. The unveiling of the 1.65-meter tall, 32-kilogram robot at an event in Shanghai showcased advancements in biomimicry and artificial intelligence that are rapidly closing the gap between science fiction and reality.

Moya: a leap in ai and physical embodiment
Unlike previous ai iterations confined to digital realms, Moya can perceive and interact with its physical surroundings with remarkable accuracy. DroidUp claims Moya achieves a 92% accuracy in its walking posture, mimicking human movement with unsettling precision. The robot can even replicate micro-expressions, allowing for rudimentary emotional displays through gestures.
The development marks a significant shift in robotics. While companies like Tesla are scaling back on consumer vehicles, focusing instead on the Optimus humanoid robot, DroidUp aims for a broader market. DroidUp states Moya maintains a body temperature between 32-36 degrees Celsius, further enhancing its human-like qualities. The robot is slated for a potential release in late2026 with an estimated starting price of 1.2 million yen (approximately €6,500), though final pricing and availability remain uncertain.
