Darksword iphone malware spotted, targets financial data

Just days after the Coruna iPhone exploit kit was uncovered, a new and equally menacing malware dubbed Darksword has been discovered by Google, mobile security firm iVerify, and cyber company Lookout.

Similar to Coruna, Darksword is designed to steal financial information, including cryptocurrency wallet details, from unsuspecting iPhone users. The malware has been found in targeted campaigns against individuals in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia, and Ukraine.

While the exploit kit primarily targets older iOS versions, up to 270 million iPhones still run vulnerable software. Apple has already patched the underlying vulnerabilities through several software updates released in recent years for users on the latest versions.

But with the discovery of two powerful iOS exploit kits in the span of a month, experts suggest the market for such tools may be expanding beyond its traditional boundaries. The sophisticated nature of Darksword and Coruna malware raises concerns about a broader ecosystem forming around these high-stakes exploits.
