How to disable ai in firefox 148
Getting started is simple! First, ensure you're running the latest version of Firefox – 148 or higher. You can check your version by going to the hamburger menu (three horizontal bars) in the top right corner, then clicking on 'Help' and finally 'About Firefox'. If an update is available, it will download and install automatically. Once updated, navigate to the 'Settings' menu (again, via the hamburger menu).
Introducing ai controls: a granular approach
Within 'Settings', you'll find a new section called 'AI Controls'. This is where the magic happens! You'll see a prominent button labeled 'AI Block Improvements' (a slightly quirky name, I must admit!). Toggling this switch will disable all of Firefox's AI features. Below that, you'll find individual toggles for specific functions, allowing you to selectively enable or disable features like translations and the chatbot.

- Translations: Automatically translates web pages in languages other than Spanish.
- Chatbot: Integrates popular chatbots (like ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) directly into the sidebar for quick access.
Currently, Firefox offers these two AI features in Spain. The US version boasts a wider range of options. This phased approach allows Mozilla to gather user feedback and refine its AI integration strategy.

The update isn't just about AI. Firefox 148 also brings improvements to PDF compatibility, including better support for embedded mathematical formulas. Furthermore, it includes performance enhancements with remote updates that don't require telemetry and enhanced language support for Traditional Chinese and Vietnamese. Of course, the update also includes the standard security patches and bug fixes that keep your browser safe and stable.
