Galaxy z fold 8 & wide fold may see a charging speed boost, but is it enough?
Samsung is reportedly gearing
up to unveil three foldable devices this summer, and details are emerging about the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a new Galaxy Wide Fold. A significant development? Both models are expected to support 45W charging, a notable leap from the 25W limit of their predecessors.
Charging speeds: a step forward, not a revolution
This upgrade is welcome news, especially considering competitors like the Motorola Razr Fold boast 80W speeds. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung’s flagship, already bumped its charging to 60W. While not record-breaking, the 45W charging could position the Z Fold 8 and Wide Fold as top contenders in the foldable space.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7, for instance, took over an hour and 23 minutes to fully charge in testing. A 45W charging system could potentially reduce that to around 60 minutes. However, the actual charging times in real-world scenarios remain to be seen. The Galaxy Wide Fold, with a rumored 4,800mAh battery, might benefit even more from the improved charging capabilities.
The question of Apple’s entry into the foldable market looms large. The anticipated iPhone Fold (or Ultra) is expected this year, placing pressure on Samsung to innovate. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will need more than just a slightly larger battery and faster charging to remain competitive. The Galaxy Wide Fold, meanwhile, must prove its value proposition to differentiate itself from last year’s Z Flip 7 FE. Samsung has consistently held the top spot in foldable sales, but maintaining that leadership demands more than past success.
The success of these devices hinges on a delicate balance. Can Samsung deliver meaningful improvements without compromising on price? The stakes are high, and the competition is intensifying.
