Google gives pixel owners a second chance to add pixel care+
Google is offering Pixel 9 and 10 Pro owners a rare extension to enroll in Pixel Care+, reopening the enrollment window through August 2nd. It’s a welcome reprieve for those who missed the initial 60-day signup period, but some models – namely the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Watch – remain excluded from the program.
A second shot at protection
Initially, the offer was intended for those who snagged a Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9a, 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, or 10a within the previous 60-day window. However, Google’s announcement on the official blog reveals a strategic pivot: device health is now the deciding factor. Owners must still have their Pixel in good working condition – no cracked glass, liquid damage, or mechanical issues allowed – and their Google account needs to be linked since July 13th.
Applecare+ vs. google’s flexibility
This move echoes a similar strategy Samsung employed earlier this year with Care+ for its Galaxy devices. While AppleCare+ maintains a notoriously strict 60-day enrollment window with mandatory in-person inspections, Google is opting for a more lenient approach. Skipping the inspection process is a clear win for Pixel owners, particularly considering the potential costs associated with screen and battery repairs – covered free throughout the duration of the plan – coupled with a $99 service fee for other accidental damage.
Pricing and limitations
Monthly plans range from $8 to $15, or you can opt for a two-year coverage package for $159 to $279 upfront. Loss and Theft coverage, adding an extra layer of security, is capped at two claims per year with a $79 to $99 deductible. Notably, Pixel Care+ isn’t available in New York state and is limited to the country where your Pixel was originally purchased.
Don’t delay – grab it now
Let’s be honest, delaying protection plans is a common impulse. But if you’ve been hesitant, this is your chance. I’m personally signing up mine before August 2nd – a free screen replacement is a price I'm willing to pay. It's a smart move, and frankly, a surprisingly generous gesture from Google.
