Google maps to let users suggest changes with natural language

Google is gearing up for a major update to its 'Suggest an edit' feature in google maps, introducing Gemini to enable users to update place information using natural language.

Natural language edits

The innovation was discovered in a previous version of the app's code and promises to transform the experience, which currently limits to traditional forms and menus.

Today, when opening a list and tapping 'Suggest an edit', a bottom-up window displays existing details about the place. To modify information like name, hours of operation, or website, users must tap each option and open a new screen to input changes.

Gemini integration

With Gemini integration, the interface will resemble a chatbot more than a classic form. Users can write their suggestions directly in a text box, using natural language, and Gemini will interpret the proposed changes.

This innovation not only speeds up the process but also makes community participation more accessible, especially for those who prefer explaining themselves in complete sentences rather than selecting specific options.

All suggestions will still be reviewed by Google before publication, ensuring the information is verified and reliable.
