Ios 26.4 beta 1 arrives: rcs encryption & enhanced security, but no siri 2.0

The long wait continues: siri 2.0 delayed again

Many iPhone users, myself included, were eagerly anticipating the arrival of iOS 26.4, hoping it would finally bring the much-delayed Siri 2.0. Following reports from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple has reportedly pushed the release of Siri 2.0 to iOS 26.5, citing ongoing snags. The anticipated features, including 'Personal Siri' capable of accessing emails, calendars, and more, and enhanced screen interaction capabilities, will have to wait. This means no immediate access to Siri's new capabilities for us early adopters.

Rcs end-to-end encryption begins in beta

While Siri 2.0 remains elusive, iOS 26.4 Beta 1 does introduce the beginning of end-to-end encryption for RCS (Rich Communication Services). You can enable this feature by navigating to Settings> Apps> Messages> RCS Messaging and toggling the 'End-to-End Encryption' option. Currently, it's limited to iPhone-to-iPhone messaging when iMessage is disabled, but cross-platform support for Android devices is on the horizon.

Podcast enhancements: seamless audio/video switching

Apple has made a welcome improvement to the Apple Podcasts app. A new toggle switch allows users to effortlessly switch between the video and audio versions of a podcast episode without losing their place. This feature is a small but significant quality-of-life improvement for podcast enthusiasts, making listening on the go even more convenient.

Stolen device protection now enabled by default

A key security enhancement, Stolen Device Protection, is now enabled by default in iOS 26.4 Beta 1. Previously an optional setting, this feature adds extra layers of security when your iPhone is away from your usual locations. It requires Face ID or Touch ID authentication for accessing sensitive data like passwords and credit cards, and introduces a time delay for password changes, giving you time to report your phone as lost.

New features & emoji additions

Beyond the headline features, iOS 26.4 Beta 1 brings several smaller but notable changes. The Wallpaper Gallery has received a redesign, and Apple Music now offers a full-screen layout for albums and playlists. A new “Concerts near you” feature provides local show listings. The Find My app introduces
