As we eagerly await the fall release of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, rumors and leaks are starting to paint a clearer picture of what Apple has in store. Last year's iPhone 17 Pro introduced a significant design overhaul, and this year, the changes are expected to be more evolutionary than revolutionary. A smaller dynamic island is on the horizon
One of the most talked-about changes revolves around the Dynamic Island, introduced with the iPhone 14. This interactive area, replacing the notch, is expected to remain, but with a key difference: a reduction in size. Early reports suggest a potential35% decrease in its footprint on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. While some rumors briefly mentioned a hole-punch cutout as a replacement, the consensus points towards a smaller Dynamic Island instead.
Display sizes to remain consistent
Fortunately for those who appreciate the current screen sizes, the display sizes for both the Pro and Pro Max models are predicted to stay the same. This means users can expect a familiar viewing experience, albeit potentially enhanced by the refined design and any software optimizations Apple introduces. Keeping the same sizes allows for focusing design improvements elsewhere, making the changes feel more impactful.
Refined aluminum and glass design
Following the introduction of the “camera plateau” and the two-tone rear glass and aluminum body with the iPhone 17 series, Apple received some criticism regarding the color contrast between the materials. The iPhone 18 aims to address this by minimizing the difference in color tones between the aluminum frame and the glass back. While the materials themselves – aluminum and glass – are expected to remain, the overall aesthetic will be more unified and seamless.
Exciting new color options potentially on the way
Apple has been experimenting with more vibrant colors for its Pro models, and the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are rumored to continue this trend. Leaks suggest Apple has tested Coffee Brown, Purple, and Burgundy color options.
