Motorola’s latest Edge-branded phone, the Edge 70 Fusion, has surfaced in Barcelona ahead of its Indian release—and it’s arriving with a surprising twist: two distinct battery capacities.

The phone, slated for an Indian launch later this week, appears to be targeting the mid-range market, positioning itself against devices like the Samsung Galaxy A56 and Google's Pixel 10a. While details leaked last week, a key piece of information emerged today: the Edge 70 Fusion will be available in both 5,200mAh and 7,000mAh versions.

This isn't just a matter of storage or RAM; the larger battery promises up to 50 hours of use on a single charge, compared to the 5,200mAh model's claimed 39 hours. Motorola’s official announcement curiously highlights only the 5,200mAh variant, a move that seems odd considering the potentially significant battery life advantage of the 7,000mAh option.

The price difference is minimal. The 5,200mAh model will retail for £370 in the UK, €469 in Italy, and €499 in France, while the 7,000mAh version costs £379.99, €499, and €529, respectively. The latter is, bafflingly, only available in the UK with the Pantone Silhouette color.

The phone boasts a 6.78-inch Extreme AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and up to 5200 nits of brightness, coupled with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor and 8GB of RAM. It also includes a 50MP primary camera with a Sony LYTIA 710 sensor and a 32MP front-facing camera. Other notable features include 68W TurboPower charging, dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and IP68 water and dust resistance.

However, Motorola's commitment to software updates remains a concern. The company only guarantees five years of security patches for the Android 16-running device— a commitment that falls short of rivals like Samsung and Google. The lack of US availability for the Edge 70 Fusion further complicates matters for potential buyers.

The phone’s diverse color palette — Pantone Sporting Green, Pantone Silhouette, Pantone Orient Blue, and Pantone Country Air — provides visual appeal, but the thicker profile and heavier weight of the 7,000mAh model might deter some. Ultimately, the Edge 70 Fusion presents a compelling value proposition, particularly for those prioritizing a vibrant display, capable cameras, and fast charging. But the uneven availability and software support raise questions about Motorola's long-term strategy.
