Pixel users lose quick photo saving from recents screen in march update

Pixel users are noticing a subtle but unwelcome change in the latest March 2026 software update. Google has quietly removed the ability to directly save images from the Recents screen, a feature many found surprisingly convenient.

For users of Pixel phones, the Recents screen – accessed by swiping up from the bottom – offers a quick overview of recent apps. Previously, a long press on an image within this screen presented a pop-up menu with options like Lens, Copy, Share, and Save. Now, the Save option is gone.

While the Copy, Share, and Edit options remain, saving images necessitates a detour through the Share menu and then selecting Upload to Photos. This process is noticeably less direct.

The removal of the Lens shortcut from the Recents menu is another change. Previously, a quick tap on an image would launch Google Lens for image search and identification. Now, users must either use Circle to Search or navigate to Share and then Google Search Image. These workarounds are less intuitive than the original shortcut.

Many users may not even realize this feature existed, contributing to Google's quiet removal. However, for those who frequently used the Recents screen for quick image saving and Lens integration, the change represents a reduction in usability.
