Pixel weather gets a fresh coat: google revamps icons for enhanced clarity

Pixel users are seeing a subtle yet significant refresh to the Pixel Weather app, with Google rolling out bolder, more accessible icons.

The update brings a visual overhaul, focusing on color and contrast.

The changes, found in version 1.1.20251230.875325825, don't alter the fundamental shapes of the weather icons. Instead, the colors have been intensified to improve readability and contrast, particularly benefiting users with low vision. The update also introduces a cleaner, white background to the app's interface.

Among the icons affected are those representing a quarter moon (nighttime), a thermometer with a red sun (heat), a yellow sun with a cloud (cloudy conditions), rain drops and lightning (thunderstorm), and snowflakes (snow). Even windy conditions now feature black asterisks alongside sideways hooks.

The redesigned interface extends to the app's widgets, offering a more visually appealing and easier-to-understand display of current and forecasted weather.

Beyond the visuals, usability improvements are also present.

The Saved Locations page now allows users to easily reorder their tracked cities with a simple drag-and-drop functionality. The Pixel Weather app continues to offer the depth of features found in established weather apps like The Weather Channel and AccuWeather, including customizable widgets.
