Playstation 5 becomes linux gaming powerhouse

A user has demonstrated that a PlayStation 5 is not necessary to run Grand Theft Auto 5 at maximum quality. Andy Nguyen has successfully run Linux on his PS5 with stunning results.

The tech expert has detailed the entire process in a post on his X account (@theflow0). The video shows how he converted his PS5 into a Steam Machine with Linux.

Andy Nguyen took it a step further. He not only wanted to prove it's possible to install Linux on a PS5, but also that you can play demanding games like GTA 5 Enhanced Edition.

The user confirms the Steam Machine, a peculiar setup, runs at around 60 fps and with ray tracing enabled. Nguyen also confirmed you can use the PS5's HDMI 4K output and all USB ports.

According to Andy Nguyen, the CPU currently runs at 3.2 GHz, while the GPU operates at 2.0 GHz.
