Renfe unveils real-time train tracking across spain

Spain’s national railway operator, Renfe, has launched a comprehensive new website providing real-time location data for its high-speed, long-distance, and soon, commuter train networks. The initiative, accessible at tiempo-real.largorecorrido.renfe.com, offers passengers unprecedented visibility into train movements.

The platform allows users to monitor the precise location of trains on a full map, select individual trains, or check information for specific stations. This expansion, set to include Cercanías and Rodalies networks in November, builds on Renfe’s recent move to publish punctuality statistics and incident data, demonstrating a commitment to transparency.

A key feature is the integration of QR codes on select trains, allowing passengers to instantly access the website via their smartphones. The visor displays the train's route, current and next stops, and estimated arrival times. Color-coded indicators on the map show completed and upcoming stops, along with estimated passing times.

This move represents a significant shift towards passenger-centric service. Historical data shows that delays cost the Spanish economy an estimated €200 million annually.
