Samsung galaxy s26: a tale of two flagships

Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung's premier event, usually brings excitement and anticipation for new flagship devices. This year, however, the presentation felt oddly one-dimensional, with the Galaxy S26 Ultra stealing the spotlight. The standard S26 and S26 Plus, while not bad phones, lacked the 'wow' factor to draw attention.

Preorder numbers in South Korea paint a clear picture: the Galaxy S26 Ultra is the clear winner, accounting for a staggering 70% of all preorders. It seems Samsung's strategy to emphasize the Ultra model has paid off.

Meanwhile, the S26 and S26 Plus, despite their lower price points, have failed to generate the same level of interest. The S26 Plus, in particular, struggles to justify its existence, offering minimal upgrades compared to the standard S26.

PhoneArena's recent poll further underscores the public's preference for the Ultra, with an impressive 75.81% of voters deeming it the most compelling model. The S26 and S26 Plus trailed far behind, with 3.3% and 5.38% of the votes, respectively.

While the S26 Plus may not be a bad phone, its lack of meaningful improvements and higher price tag make it a tough sell. Buyers are clearly drawn to the Ultra's premium features and large display.
