Samsung's galaxy z wide fold: a foldable iphone challenger?

Samsung is reportedly working on a new foldable device, the Galaxy Z Wide Fold, to directly compete with Apple's expected foldable iPhone. While details are still scarce, a recent leak suggests the phone will feature a 7.6-inch display when unfolded, providing a more tablet-like experience compared to the Galaxy Fold 7.

Power and battery

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Wide Fold is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, similar to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, there's a possibility Samsung could opt for its in-house Exynos 2600 chipset instead.

Regarding battery life, the phone is said to pack a combined capacity of around 4,800 mAh, slightly larger than the Galaxy Fold 7 but still below the 5,600 mAh of the Galaxy Z TriFold.

A gamble for samsung

The Galaxy Z Wide Fold's specs, while not groundbreaking, aim to capitalize on the growing trend of foldable devices. However, this strategy also comes with risks, as the success of the foldable iPhone will heavily influence the demand for Samsung's competing product.

If Apple's foldable iPhone fails to gain significant traction, it could negatively impact the Galaxy Z Wide Fold's sales, much like the Galaxy S25 Edge suffered due to the lukewarm reception of the Galaxy Note series.

Samsung's decision not to prioritize a larger battery may prove costly, especially considering the company's earlier success with the Galaxy Z TriFold featuring a more substantial power pack.
