Samsung's one ui 8.5 update brings partial screen recording

Samsung's upcoming One UI 8.5 software update promises to bring several exciting features to its devices, and one of the most notable additions is the partial screen recording capability.

Recording just what you need

Typically, when you initiate a screen recording, it captures the entire display. This can be convenient, but it also means you end up with footage that includes unnecessary elements.

Samsung's solution is to allow users to record only a specific portion of the screen. When you access the screen record feature, you'll notice two options: 'Full screen' and 'Partial screen'. The former is self-explanatory, while the latter lets you select the area you want to capture.

Intelligent framing

When you choose partial screen recording, the system will automatically detect and frame the video content on your screen. You can, however, adjust the recording frame if needed.

A feature already available on some devices

This isn't a completely new concept, as OnePlus introduced a similar feature with Oxygen OS 15. The Pixel series also offers screen recording with the option to select a particular app for capture.

Availability and future prospects

The beta version of One UI 8.5 is currently available for the Galaxy S25 series, with the stable update set to roll out alongside the Galaxy S26 lineup on February 25th.

While Samsung is the first to integrate this feature as a native screen recording option, it's hoped that other manufacturers will follow suit in the future, providing users with more control over their recording experiences.
