Tcl unveils budget-friendly tablet contenders at mwc 2024
Barcelona – TCL has thrown two new tablets into the ring at Mobile World Congress 2024, aiming to challenge the dominance of Apple's iPad and Amazon's Kindle. The TCL Tab A1 Plus and Note A1 NXTPAPER both promise compelling features at what appears to be attractive price points.
Tcl tab a1 plus: a competitor to the ipad air?
The Tab A1 Plus boasts a 12.2-inch display with a 2400 x 1600 pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor, paired with 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage, expandable via microSD. While the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 isn't high-end, the large, sharp display, coupled with an 8,000mAh battery and a surprisingly sleek metal unibody design, could make it a compelling option around the $200 mark.

Note a1 nxtpaper: a kindle challenger
Targeting readers and writers, the Note A1 NXTPAPER features a 11.5-inch display with 2200 x 1440 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It utilizes TCL's NXTPAPER technology, designed to mimic the feel of paper with anti-glare and anti-fingerprint properties. A built-in T-Pen Pro with 8,192 pressure levels promises a smooth writing experience. Unlike Amazon's Kindle devices, it offers Android 16 and 8GB of RAM, along with 256GB of storage. Its inclusion of eight microphones and dual speakers suggest a focus on productivity and multimedia consumption.
The Note A1 NXTPAPER also incorporates AI features like Meeting Transcription, Real-Time Translation, and Handwriting-to-Text Conversion, which could significantly boost efficiency. However, its announced price of $549 suggests a higher investment than many Kindle models.
The TCL Note A1 NXTPAPER’s design, featuring aerospace-grade aluminum, and the inclusion of a stylus, distinguish it from many budget Android tablets currently available.
Whether these devices can capture significant market share remains to be seen. But TCL’s aggressive pricing strategy, especially for the Tab A1 Plus, positions them as serious contenders.
If you've been seeking a more versatile tablet than a traditional e-reader, the Note A1 NXTPAPER represents a substantial upgrade. It’s a bold move by TCL, and one that could reshape the competitive landscape.
