Whatsapp shuffles ai: meta ai gets its own tab

WhatsApp is overhauling its interface, placing its Meta ai assistant in a dedicated tab – a significant shift from its previous integration within the chat section. The change, currently in beta testing, aims to streamline access to ai features like image generation and task assistance.

The revamped navigation bar will see the Communities tab replaced by a dedicated space for Meta ai. This new tab will house a range of functionalities, enabling users to create and animate images, seek information, and even initiate voice calls with the ai. It also provides access to the assistant's management options.

WABetaInfo, a tech news site, first spotted the changes in the Android beta version of WhatsApp (2.26.10.5). The floating window previously used to access Meta ai conversations will disappear from the Chats tab.

This move indicates Meta's commitment to integrating AI deeply into its messaging platforms, presenting a new way for users to interact with the technology. The focus is on making AI a more readily available tool, rather than a secondary feature.

The updated interface is currently being tested with a limited group of users, suggesting a gradual rollout. The change prioritizes AI functionality, potentially reshaping user engagement with the messaging app.
